Welcome to the New Digs

I have to admit that I never bonded with WordPress. I know some of you love it, but it was more technical than what I wanted. It's not that I can't do technical; I just don't want to. I'm a lazy blogger, and I believe Squarespace will keep me from having to fool with anything more complex than the occasional light HTML editing or pasting in a Java snippet.

If you got here by typing in http://www.thislamp.com, then I have successfully transferred the domain. I realize there's still a lot of work to be done here, and there will probably be a ziillion broken links, graphics to fix and the like, but I'll repair all of it over time. Squarespace conveniently imported my WordPress blog, although I still need to clean it up a bit. All of your comments were moved over, too, which is nice.

Squarespace is a bit pricey, but they have 24-hour tech support, and I've yet to ask them a question via email for which I did not receive a reply in a matter of minutes. But while I'm thinking about it, I want to publicly thank Joel Watts for all the help over the last couple of years on WordPress. Every time something major wasn't working, he fixed it. I owe you, Joel!

After I get this content cleaned up, the big project for the next ten months will be to convert over what I always call "Classic This Lamp," which are all my old posts from 2003 - 2009 from my site before I moved to WordPress. This old site is still sitting on my MobileMe iDisk, which Apple says will go away on June 30, 2012.

Squarespace looks like it will be a good fit for now and hopefully the long run. I'm not wild about this template that I've initially chosen, but I'll fix that later on. The good news is that I can get back to blogging more regularly. Besides the fact that I've been too busy lately, I just never liked using WordPress, so I just didn't seem to look forward to writing online like I used to. Hopefully that will change now and my schedule will ease up a bit, too.

As always, your comments are welcome.
